ERNST FUCHS
In Erwartung der Auferstehung.

Etching, 1952. 180x216 mm; 7 1/4x8 3/4 inches, wide (full ?), irregular margins. Artist's proof, aside from the edition of 60. Signed, titled, dated, inscribed "5. Probedruck von 6" and annotated in pencil, lower margin. A very good impression of this extremely scarce, early etching.

Fuchs (1930-2015) was an Austrian painter and printmaker, born and trained in Vienna. He co-founded the Fantastic Realism movement, which had ties to Surrealism as well as the 17th century mannerists and old masters such as Albrecht Altdorfer, Albrecht Dürer, Matthias Grünewald and Martin Schongauer.

In Erwartung der Auferstehung (or Awaiting the Resurrection>/i>) is among Fuchs's earliest etchings; up until the late 1940s his printed work consisted primarily of woodcuts influenced by the Old Masters.
