ERNST KELLER (1891-1968) DAS NEUE HEIM. 1928.
50 1/4x35 3/4 inches. J.C. Muller, Zurich.
Condition B+: tears and repaired tears through bottom margin affecting image; tape on verso. Paper.
Keller is one of the fathers of the international typographic style. From 1918 until his retirement in 1956 he taught advertising at the Zurich School of Decorative Arts, were he had a great influence on at least two generations of designers. His program emphasized legibility and simplicity. He did several posters for the Museum of Zurich. Das Neue Heim<> (The New House) is a perfect example of his minimal yet highly efficient approach. This design was so pleasing to the artist that he used it twice, the first time was in 1926 for the same event. After more than 70 years it would still look perfectly modern today!
