ERNST LÜBBERT (1879-1916) D. NOACK. 1911.
26 1/4x37 1/4 inches. Ernst Marx, Berlin.
Condition A-: repaired tears and restoration in top margin.
Lübbert was a prolific poster designer in Berlin who died during the First World War. While he may not have had the humor of Klinger, nor the power of Erdt nor the elegance of Deutsch, he was an accomplished graphic designer all the same, and his best creations, like this one, have definite style. To advertise this milliner, who also sells feathers and flowers for their hats, Lübbert clearly and efficiently portrays two women's heads; one in profile, and the other wearing a hat and an extravagant feather seductively watching us.
