German-born Richard Levi changed his surname when he migrated to Palestine, choosing the first letters of his first and last name. It is often misspelled "Ariel" or "Ereel." According to the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, the artist "served as the graphic counselor of the Israeli government. Among his designs are the Israeli Flag and some of the first symbols of the state." The Tel Aviv Zoo opened in 1938. rare. We could find no other copy at auction since 1995.
