ETHEL MYERS
The Widow.

Plaster with light brownish tan coloring, 1913. 210 mm; 8 1/4 inches (height). Signed, dated and inscribed "©" on the base.

Ethel Myers (1881-1960) exhibited nine sculptures in the Armory Show, including the current work. She is known for her social realist sculptures of city dwellers, influenced by Robert Henri. Her early Ashcan paintings gave way to figurative sculpture after her 1905 marriage to Jerome Myers, whose career eventually overshadowed hers.
