ETIENNE MOREAU-NÉLATON (1859-1927) EXPOSITION DE L'ART A L'ECOLE. 1904. 54 1/2x39 inches, 139x99 cm. Minot, Paris. Condition B+ / A-: repaired tears through lower margin, one affecting image. Moreau-Nélaton was an illustrator, painter, art critic, decorative artist and ceramicist. He also designed a handful of posters advertising exhibitions. L'Art a l'Ecole was a program initiated by Roger Marx for the French Government aimed to put lithographs in schools to familiarize students with art. Moreau-Nélaton, who designed a series of images for the program, was also asked to design a poster for the exhibition. Using the tender tones and delicate drawings that are the hallmarks of his graphic style he depicts a schoolboy, with his lunch and school bag, admiring two of the project's lithographs displayed at his school. The artist signed the piece via his monogram, which appears in the upper right corner. Five of the posters appear in the Maitres de l'Affiche series, this sixth poster was designed after the series ended.
