EUGENE BERMAN
La Serva Padrona.

Group of 13 (of 24) pen and ink drawings, 8 with watercolor (one also with gouache), of costume and set designs, with letters of explanation and with artistic suggestions for the opera, 1952. Three of the drawings and the letter initialed in ink. Original yellow folder with the opera's title, contents and artist's initials, date and New York address in ink.

The costume designs are for the character Dottor Pandolfo, while the set designs range from stage layout to the design and placement of candelabras for the set. The artist also includes a swatch of material he felt "could do very nicely--if we use the green vest for the Bulgar's disguise."

La Serva Padrona was composed by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi in 1732. Various sizes and conditions.
