Condition B: repaired tears, creases, abrasions and staining in margins and image; overall darkening of image. Sarah Bernhardt commissioned this poster from Grasset five years before she settled on Alphonse Mucha as her premier poster designer. When "The Divine Sarah" saw this image of herself portraying Joan of Arc she thought the look not quite holy and had Grasset redo the poster so that she appeared with a different hair style and expression. These original versions survived and were sold by a contemporary poster dealer, G. de Malherbe, whose imprint appears in the bottom margin.
