Hôtel du Commandant de la Garde de Paris, 40 Rue Meslay * Hôtel de Roquelaure, 246 Boulevard Saint-Germain (architectural detail). Together, 2 albumen prints, the images measuring 8⅞x7 inches (22.5x17.8 cm.) and 7x8½ inches (17.8x21.6 cm.), each with Atget's title and inventory number in pencil on verso. 1910 and 1880-1900

The French pioneer of documentary photography Eugène Atget is best known for documenting the architecture and street scenes of Paris before their disappearance to modernization in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His work was rediscovered by American photographer Berenice Abbott and has since been celebrated for its historical importance.
