Additional Details

In Correspondence on the Proposed Tripartite Convention, Relative to Cuba (Boston, 1853) is printed the communications between Everett (as Secretary of State), Daniel Webster, Lord John Russell, and various ministers of France and England, concerning the possession of Cuba. A controversy arose when Everett, who had left office in March of 1853, published in September a response to Lord John Russell's letter concerning policy on Cuba, whereupon Everett was accused of interfering in matters of state.
