Octavo bound volume, fourth series, volume 14; containing issues 6-10, each issue with 11-18 scientific papers, including Einstein's "Zur allgemeinen molekularen Theorie der Wärme," his first major work, which appears on pages 354-362; bound in contemporary half cloth and marbled paper boards, nicely preserved; 8 1/4 x 5 1/2 in.

"Einstein's work up to this time does not show the unique qualities that characterize his mature science. Those qualities appear for the first time in [this] publication written in March, 1904. In this short article Einstein breaks new ground but does it so simply and directly that the boldness of the arguments and the unexpected nature of the results might easily go unnoticed. Einstein focused his attention on the single universal constant that appears in all basic equations of statistical mechanics, the constant we now refer to as Boltzmann's constant. He offered a new interpretation of its significance, using the generality of his formulation of statistical theory, and suggested a fresh approach to its experimental determination." (Klein).
