Located in Auvergne, Vichy was the largest and most prestigious French spa. Its mineral waters were considered curative for a host of maladies, and members of the aristocracy and bourgeoisie sought "treatment" there. Images of elegant society ladies and children taking the cure at Vichy were abundant among turn-of-the-century travel posters, and this tender image by d'Alesi is one of the earliest. Hillon p. 100.
