Located in Auvergne, Vichy was the largest and most prestigious French spa. Its mineral waters were considered curative for a host of maladies and members of the aristocracy and bourgeoisie sought "treatment" there. Images of elegant society ladies and children taking "the cure" at Vichy were abundant among turn-of-the-century travel posters. This tender example by d'Alési is one of the earliest. Hillon p. 100.
