F. JAY HAYNES (1853-1921) Grand Canyon [of the Yellowstone] from Artist's Point. Mammoth-plate carbon print, the image measuring 18x23 3/4 inches (45.7x60.3 cm.), flush mounted, with Haynes' signature, in white ink, on recto, and with the title, in pencil, and with his Yellowstone hand stamp, on mount verso. 1890s
Haynes' large exhibition prints were made for advertising displays in railroad cars and steamer boats. Interestingly "Artist's Point was originally named by the photographer, who improperly believed that this was the location at which the American painter Thomas Moran sketched his depictions of the falls.
