Paris Condition B+: loss in upper left corner; discoloration in margins and image; vertical and horizontal folds. Lochard was an illustrator and a member of the Salon des Humoristes. We learn here that he also had his own advertising and printing studio. As we know of few posters that are attributable to him, it is more than likely that his studio didn't last for very long. In this charming, and virtually indecipherable tableau, Lochard depicts a policeman (depicted in the likeness of Georges Clemenceau, the French Prime Minister) halting traffic so that a fashionable young woman and her dog can cross the street. One of the drivers (and this is an ad for automobiles) looks like Aristide Briand, the man who replaced Clemenceau as Prime Minister in 1909, suggesting that this poster alludes to a political scandal that would have been familiar to Parisians of the time.
