A Plan of New York Island, With Part of Long Island, Staten Island & East New Jersey, With a Particular Description of the Engagement on the Woody Heights of Long Island, Between Flatbush and Brooklyn, on the 27th of August 1776 Between His Majesty's Forces Commanded by General Howe and the Americans Under Major General Putnam, with the Subsequent Disposition of Both Armies. Engraved battle plan of New York City and vicinity on watermarked laid paper. 21x17 1/2 inches sheet size, ample margins; original hand-coloring; sheet with a nice aged patina, reinforced split along upper fold with desiccated tape staining from an earlier repair, other minor edge tears and soft creases. first issue, first state without letterpress text below the map, without shading along the waterways and "Tetards Hill" being the most northerly place marked on the Hudson River. The watermark is a "GR" monogrammed fleur-de-lys surmounted shield with an "RG" countermark. A rare example of Faden's plan of the British invasion of New York during the American Revolution, this issue not seen at auction since the 1967 Streeter sale.
