FELICE GIANI
(San Sebastiano Curone 1758-1823 Rome)
Abraham Casting Out Hagar and Ishmael.

Red chalk on cream laid paper. 428x285 mm; 17x111/4 inches. Ex-collection Edward and Mary Brandegee (Lugt supplement 1860c, verso).

Another drawing by Giani, Abraham and the Angels, pen and ink and wash, 1789-91, now in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, was also formerly in the Brandegee collection. According to Lugt, the Brandegees acquired the bulk of their drawings, some 8200 sheets, from the collection of the Roman artist Giovanni Piancastelli (1845-1926).
