Additional Details

Fenton's coverage of the Crimean War was focused on Sebastopol, where historian Valerie Lloyd notes "The heat of the sun was intense enough to melt his gutta percha developing trays." After returning to London, Fenton and William Agnew were summoned to an audience with Napoleon III to show the Emperor a selection of prints, which were later published under his and Queen Victoria's patronage.
