FERDINAND BURGER (DATES UNKOWN) WEINACHTS-DULT. 1903.
39x233/4 inches. Ferdinand Burger.
Condition B+: repaired tears in margins and image; creases in corners and image; sharp vertical and horizontal folds in image.
Primarily known as a painter, Burger studied art in his native city of Munich and moved to Paris in the early 1890s. While there he fell under the influence of Blanch and Boldini whose work was reflected in his paintings. This is most probably his only poster, but it is an exceptional and curious piece. It depicts a patron of the arts strolling through an exhibition of small, framed works. It is an expressionistic gem of perspective and simplicity, using only three colors. The progressive design is suited to the unusual subject matter, as the exhibition has been mounted by the Deaf and Dumb Artist's Society of Munich.
