Etretat, with beautiful natural attractions like the sea and impressive cliffs, was a popular tourist destination. Only four hours away from Paris, the resort boasted a Casino, golf courses and tennis courts. And it is the natural, rugged beauty of the surroundings and the tennis that Lunel focuses on. Lunel, like so many of his contemporaries, did illustration work for Parisian magazines, and also designed a few posters. This image stands out from the majority of travel posters of the time in that it is not just static landscape. Lunel imbues the image with style and personality, making the stylish young woman's white shirt pop out of the dark, dramatic background. Train 147, Maitres 1900 p. 77.
