Provenance: Charles Paul Jean-Baptiste de Bourgevin Vialart, Comte de Saint-Morys (1743-1795), Paris and London; (Lugt 474, lower right recto); probably either of his sales by Henry Phillips, London, June 1797 or May 2, 1799; Christie's, London, April 7, 1970, lot 76; private collection, New York.

There is a similar pen and ink drawing of a youth in the Uffizi, Florence (see Inventario I: Disegni esposti, number 94; see also Degenhart and Schmitt, Corpus der Italianischer Zeichnungen 1300-1450, Berlin, 1968, number 334, plate 291E).
