FIRMIN BOUISSET (1859-1925) MAGGI. 1895.
54x381/4 inches. Maggi.
Condition B+: restoration along vertical and horizontal folds.
Bouisset is famous for having invented the famous little school girl spokesperson for Chocolat Menier and for the many other posters he designed advertising comestibles using children (based on his son and daughter) as models. For this Swiss competitor to Menier, Bouisset also chooses a little girl to help sell the product (creating an unofficial advertising standard for chocolate products-see lot), shown in her undergarments, drinking a steaming cup of chocolat. Similarly posed as in the Chocolat Menier poster, the little girl has her back to the viewer, but against the bold, blue background she stands out quite clearly. The company name is presented along the bottom in the form of an enamelled street sign. This rare poster was published in different languages by Maggi itself using the presses at Camis. Chocolate p. 82.
