Additional Details

"The trouble is that I have to write popular short stories in order to get money and to write what I want to do - which is novels. My price (Post, Red Book, etc.) is $2000 at present . . . I couldn't ask less than $1000." The Fitzgeralds rented an apartment at this address in late April 1925. During this time, he wrote for a number of magazines and began work on Tender Is the Night. Henry Goddard Leach took over as owner and editor of The Forum in the early 1920s, increasing the circulation from a little over 2,000 to over 92,000 by the end of the decade. However, despite this success and the literary figures he attracted to the magazine (Cather, Galsworthy, Hurst, Sinclair, Morley), he was never able to entice Fitzgerald to write for The Forum.
