Additional Details

Within hours of being captured by the Moon's gravity, the Apollo 11 crew prepared to show viewers on earth close-up television pictures of the Moon's surface. On side 3-49 Neil Armstrong checked off seven scheduled events, including television preparations and spacecraft maneuver updates. The television included views over the planned landing site. Estimates were that about 1 billion people on earth viewed or saw portions of this telecast. Man's first landing on another world was less that 24 hours away.
