Florence Lundborg, a San Francisco native, was a painter and book illustrator. A student of the California Arts and Crafts Movement, Lundborg designed a total of seven woodblock posters for The Lark, of which this was the first. For each of her posters, in true artisan fashion, she carved all the blocks herself. The Poster, April 1896, describes the paper used for the poster as "a very interesting bamboo fibre paper used in the Chinese drugstores in San Francisco."
