FLOWN Apollo 11 LM G and N Dictionary. A single sheet approximately 5.5x8 inches, being PGNS-51 and PGNS-52, from the checklist. PGNS or Primary Guidance and Navigation Section was the system critical for Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to safely land and return from the lunar surface. NASA/MSC, 23 June 1969

Additional Details

The steps on this sheet were part of the coelliptic rendezvous sequence designed to unite Lunar Module "Eagle" with Command/Service Module "Columbia" in lunar orbit. A Typed Letter Signed by Buzz Aldrin reads in part: "Within the hour of the first step listed on PGNS-51 we had completed lift-off from the lunar surface. This side has the nine steps of P(rogram) 72 that Neil and I used for CSI (Concentric Sequence Initiate) which placed 'Eagle' in a lunar orbit about 15 nautical miles below 'Columbia.' This was done at the first LM apolune and set up the proper phasing conditions for CDH. These steps also allowed for corrections of any out-of-plane errors that resulted from the initial lunar lift-off.
"Side PGNS-52 has the initial steps of P(rogram) 73 for the CDH (Constant Delta Height) maneuver which was a small radial burn that coellipticize 'Eagle's' orbit with 'Columbia's.' All maneuvers on this sheet used Eagle's reaction control thrusters mounted in groups of four at four equal distance points on the Ascent Stage."
Side PGNS-51 has been inscribed and signed by Buzz Aldrin: "Flown to the lunar surface on Apollo XI, Buzz Aldrin." PGNS-52 has been inscribed: "Used by Neil and myself after lunar lift-off during Apollo XI, Buzz Aldrin."
