Additional Details

The patch was carried on the Apollo 14 flight, the third manned lunar landing mission. The letter reads in part: "Al never made it up to the rim of Cone Crater, but didn't do too bad considering he was the oldest man ever to walk on the moon! Alan Shepard was the only one of us Mercury guys to make a lunar flight and actually walk on the moon's surface. I had hoped to command the Apollo mission before his, but it just didn't work out that way."
