PROPERTY OF THE ESTATE OF KARL HENIZE FLOWN Apollo XV United States Beta cloth flag. An approximately 1.5x3 inch U.S. flag, mounted in an approximately 14 x18 inch frame with crew signatures. Mounted with a descriptive plaque, mission photograph, and an unflown Apollo 15 patch. The plaque reads: "This flag was carried on the lunar surface throughout the geological exploration of the Hadley-Apennine, Apollo 15, July 26 - August 7, 1971." Np: 1971

A small number of these flags were carried in Lunar Module 'Falcon' down to the lunar surface. They were then carried out onto the lunar surface while in an astronaut's space suit pocket. Thus, it was carried in both forms of lunar surface transportation, moon walking and rover driving excursions.
Signed by Dave Scott, Al Worden, and Jim Irwin on the matting below an inscription by Scott that reads: "To Karl Henize. With warmest personal regards from the crew of Apollo 15. Your support of the CSM and scientific experiments added greatly to the success of our mission. 4 Dec, Apollo Yr. 3".
Dr. Henize was an astronaut in the 6th group selected in 1967. He was on the Apollo 15 support team and co-investigator on several experiments during the flight.
