Additional Details

This bag was used to stow checklist documents and lunar charts in the command module during the Apollo 16 Saturn V launch. During the flight, the crew used this bag to transfer needed documents and charts for use while flying the LM in lunar orbit and for operations inside the LM while on the lunar surface. The lunar surface traverse and navigational charts it contained were removed and carried out to the surface during the first EVA, then after the third EVA, the charts used on the surface were again stowed inside this bag prior to lift-off. Some of the lunar dust that collected on the charts during three EV has rubbed off and is embedded onto the inside of the bag. Numerous dark dust marks can be observed along the bag's interior.
The front center of the bag has been inscribed and signed by Charlie Duke with: "This Lunar Module transfer bag contained lunar maps and checklists. It was transfered from the CSM 'Casper' to the LM 'Orion' once in lunar orbit where it remained during our lunar stay of nearly 72 hours. Charlie Duke, Apollo 16 LMP".
