Additional Details

This navigational device was used to update the LM computer's guidance and navigation system for an emergency LM lift-off just after landing if required. Star patterns viewed through the AOT would be identified and verified with this chart. Measurements made with the AOT and were entered via computer into the LM's navigational system defining the LM's inertial orientation. The chart's reverse side has been inscribed and signed by Cernan with: "Flown to the lunar surface, Apollo XVII, Eugene Cernan". With Typed Letter Signed by Cernan.
on the reverse side, the velcro hook has turned gray with lunar dust.
