FLOWN FLIGHT EXPERIMENT FLOWN Extinction Photometer. Perforated hold at one end and a 4 inch circular calibrated neutral density optical wedge at the opposite end. Optical wedge end has two black velcro strips on each side. Identification "M20" engraved on the handle end. The objective was to obtain photometer readings for an evaluation of light transmission through the capsule window. Readings could be obtained when Cooper had time to locate identifiable stars during daylight or night (earth shadow) mission phases. A hand held standard light source was needed to set calibrataion of the measurement before and after each star reading. The ratio of relative star magnitudes to actual magnitudes provided the capsule window transmissivity. Approximately 7 inches long. Accompanied by a Typed Letter Signed by Cooper describing the instrument and its use during the flight.

Capsule size and weight restrictions severely limited the amount of experiment equipment flown.
