FLOWN United States Flag from Apollo 16. An approximately 4x6 inch flag that was taken to the lunar surface, inscribed by Charlie Duke. Handsomely matted with an assemblage of 4 other items. Above the flag a plaque reads "This flag, presented by the Apollo 16 crew to House Ways & Means Chairman Wilbur Mills landed on the moon aboard 'Orion' on April 20, 1972." Another panel contains the signatures of crew members John Young, Ken Mattingly, and Charlie Duke. A large panel contains the "Leaping Salute" photograph of John Young saluting a U.S. flag planted on the lunar suface, with a lengthy inscription by Duke. The last panel is a photograph of Duke holding the finished piece. Overall dimension 16x201/2 inches.Vp, vd
