CARRIED BY COOPER ON FAITH 7 FLOWN United States Flag from Faith 7. Flag carried by Astronaut Gordon Cooper in May, 1963. Approximately 5.5x 8 inches, retaining the tri-fold creases from being stowed in his space suit leg pocket. Accompanied by a copy of the 7 May 1963 NASA HQ transmittal letter sending U.S. Flags to Cooper for this flight.

Inscribed, "This flag was flown on Faith 7, May 15-16, 1963, Gordon Cooper" on the bottom white stripe.
Flown flags from any Mercury mission are extremely rare. Very little though was given to carrying mementos on any of the early flights. Due to the long duration flight planned for 'Faith 7', capsule weight was critical, thus Cooper was able to carry only a very limited number of personal items.
