Additional Details

K.W. Gransden was a poet, scholar and literary critic, and friendly with Forster "...who came down from Cambridge to talk about his work, read Babar stories to Gransden's young daughter. Gransden kept up the connection with Forster, and later wrote a book about him, E.M. Forster, [Oliver and Boyd, Edinburgh, 1962] which Forster himself read in typescript" (The Independent, August 4, 1998).
Several of these letters reference the critical appraisal that Gransden was shaping into a book at the time. November 13, 1960: "If books are to be written about me I am so glad that you are writing one." July 21, 1961: "I shall be pleased to look at the typescript and tell you of any errors of fact." A letter written subsequent to the publication of Gransden's book shows Forster's approval of the text. November 27, 1964: "I had not been very well either and the Tennyson has been a great pleasure. I have been looking at the book on myself again - so welcome! - I always recommend it." Two earlier letters to other recipients reference London shops where Forster indicates where his books might be found.
