Autograph Letter Signed, to an unnamed recipient ("Dear Sir"), bound into first volume of his Life of Charles Dickens facing dedication, thanking for the gift of an unknown biography of Dickens, thanking for the suggestion of sending copies to the surviving members of the Dickens family, and giving their address. 4 pages, 16mo, mourning stationery, written on a folded sheet; lower portion of first leaf cut away with illegible traces of text remaining, hinged along left edge of first page to bound in leaf. The book, 3 volumes. 8vo, morocco by Bretault; bookplates on front endpapers from Albert Henry Wiggin and Lynde Selden. "Kensington.W" [London], 27 July 1874; the book: London, 1872-74
