Black and white chalk on grayish tan laid paper. 265x402 mm; 10 1/2x15 3/4 inches. Inscribed "F. Boucher" in ink, lower left recto. Ex-collection Charles Gasc (Lugt 542, lower center recto); and unknown collector, sold Christie's, London, July 8, 1980, lot 79.

A study for two figures in the Beauvais tapestry of Neptune Rescuing Ameymone (see Ananoff/Wildenstein, op cit, number 376), one of a series of tapestries from Les Amours des Dieux that Boucher began designing in the late 1740s.
