FRANCESCO MONTELATICI, CALLED CECCO BRAVO
(Florence 1601-1661 Innsbruck)
Studies of Male Nude with Hands Clasped to Head.

Red chalk on cream laid paper, double-sided. 328x230mm; 13x9 inches. Inscribed "Cecco B." in ink, lower left recto. With a study of an arm and hand in pencil, verso. Star in a circle watermark.

Provenance: Private collection, Massachusetts.

This drawing appears to be a study for a figure of a damned soul in a Last Judgment scene or perhaps is connected with Cecco's lost fresco of the Fall of the Rebel Angels, painted circa 1648 in SS. Michele e Gaetano, Florence.

Emilio Negro has seen this drawing in person and confirmed the attribution to Cecco Bravo in a letter which accompanies this lot, dated June 25, 2012.
