FRANCISCO DE A. GALI (1880-1965) EXPOSICION INTERNATIONAL DE BARCELONA. 1929.
43x28 3/4 inches, 109x73 cm. I. G. Seix & Barral Herm, Barcelona.
Condition B+: repaired tears, creases and abrasions in margins and image.
Francisco de Gali only designed posters for exhibitions and cultural events. The majority of his works, especially his early ones, are very straightforward and academic in style. In 1929, he designed three posters for the Barcelona Exposition. Two of them were stylized Art Deco representations of the trains and ships that would bring people to the fair. This third one was for a special exhibition of Spanish art within the larger exposition. The "Art in Spain" exhibition was held in the Palacio del Arte Moderno, and featured paintings, sculptures, drawings and engravings from the previous century. Gali's visual, artistic travelogue includes a stylized nod to religious art, natural art and the city of Barcelona hosting the event. Catalunya 153.
