FRANCISCO JOSÉ DE GOYA
Hilan Delgado.

Etching, aquatint and drypoint, circa 1799. 215x150 mm; 81/2x6 inches, full margins. First edition. From Los Caprichos. A very good, early impression with the delicate drypoint lines in the threads of yarn by the spinner's left hand printing clearly.

Goya (1746-1828) ranks, along with Dürer and Rembrandt, in the triumverate of most renowned old master printmakers. His technical mastery of aquatint and etching, and the sublime tonal qualities he achieved in his intaglio and lithographic prints, echoes the graphic work of Rembrandt. Delteil 81; Harris 79.
