A brilliant, richly-inked impression with the lighter and darker aquatint tones distinct and the highlights on the woman and in the sky in strong contrast, with all the delicate aquatint grain applications visible, such as the evident brush marks used to apply the grain in the lighter to darker gradation above the highlighted patch behind the two men, with some residual aquatint tone in the uncleaned margins and with no sign of wear, consistent with the earliest impressions of this subject.
