FRANCISCO TAMAGNO (1851-1933) L'ABSINTHE CUSENIER OXYGÉNÉE . 1896.
51 1/4x39 3/4 inches, 130x101 cm. Camis, Paris.
Condition A-: unobtrusive vertical and horizontal folds.
Very little biographical information about Tamagno can be found. It is well documented that he was one of the artists under contract with the major Parisian printer Camis. His forte was product advertising, and he was prolific in the fields of bicycles and liqueurs. He designed several "celebrity endorsement" images for absinthe companies. Here the drinker here is Albert Brasseur, a well known Parisian actor, who is shown gesturing at his cocktail, trying to lure a charming passerby to his table. DFP-II 807, Reims 1042, Drink 28, Meisterplakate 222.
