This elegently stylized, seated mahogany figure is an excellent example of the work of sculptor Frank Hayden. The artist made three versions of this seated figure; Swann sold another version on December 10, 2020. The Louisiana artist is best known for monumental public sculptures of abstracted figures. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Hayden was considered one of Louisiana's preeminent contemporary sculptors and an influential educator. He worked with many media, including wood, stone, plaster and fiber glass. A similar mahogany figure composition, In Flight, 1985, is in the collection of Lousiana Art and Science Museum. Hayden was the subject of a retrospective Frank Hayden: Lift Every Voice at the Louisiana Art and Science Museum, Baton Rouge, July 1, 2020 - January 1, 2021.
