A student at the Chicago School of Art, Hazenplug entered the commercial art scene in 1894, when he began working with Will Bradley at Stone & Kimball in Chicago. When Bradley moved to Springfield, Massachusetts, Hazenplug took over his position, designing several Chap Book posters, this being his first. It is known as "The Red Lady," and appeared on the magazine's cover on November 1, 1895. Kiehl 97, DFP I 269, Reims 1233.
