Feiffer commentary: I liked Frank Miller's work for comic book work, but I was not a big fan of the whole Marvel thing with the exception of once in LA, I spent an afternoon with Stan Lee, and I fell in love with him. I thought he was great. He was open, smart, and fun, and there was no pretense about him. But this page records the moment when Miller started to draw Daredevil, which would be the making of him. When I was young, I preferred to be in the Superman school rather than the Batman's. The Batman school preferred a vulnerable hero to an invulnerable one, preferred a hero who was able to take punishment and triumph in the end to a hero who took comparatively little punishment, just dished it out. In my own case the concept of triumph over adversity was never very convincing. My own observations led me to believe that the only triumph most people eked out of adversity was to manage to stay alive as it swept by. With me, I didn't think it would be any different. I preferred to play it safe and be invulnerable, like Superman. I am still waiting to see if that works.
