The British answer to Cassandre's Nord Express and Ragan's The 20th Century Ltd., this is arguably one of the best Art Deco British train images. Throughout the 1920s, the LNER and LMS Railways competed with each other over who had the most prestigious train and who provided the most opulent service. The Royal Scot (LMS) and the Flying Scotsman (LNER) were top in their categories, but speed was never really an issue in their comparison. The Silver Jubilee, introduced in 1935, was, as the poster clearly states, "Britain's First Streamlime Train," with its speed proudly included in the text. Railway p. 25.
