FRANK NEWBOULD PLYMOUTH. 1946.
39x49 1/4 inches. Haycock Press, London.
Condition B+: minor restoration along vertical and horizontal folds; creases in image.
Sir Francis Drake was the first Englishman to sail around the world, and at the end of his career had amassed enough wealth to make him the first English millionaire in his lifetime. Here, the city of Plymouth in preen, purple and gray, of which he was the mayor, is seen before over a larger than life blue image of a statue of Drake which stands in the city. It is interesting to note that the real man was only 5 feet, 2 inches tall; lettering in orange.
