FRANK SOLTESZ (1912-1998) FLY TWA. 1952. 36 3/4x24 1/2 inches, 93 1/4x62 1/4 cm. Condition B+ / B: repaired tears, creases, abrasions and overpainting at edges and in image; discoloration in upper image. Faded. Soltesz, who was a commercial illustrator, designed several posters and magazine ads for TWA in the 1950s. He also designed covers for maps issued by the Standard Oil Company (Esso), pulp magazine covers and other advertisements for the Saturday Evening Post. This poster is one of several different variations, as the top has been left blank for additional text. "TWA's Lockheed Super Connie was easy to identify with its dipped nose, triple tail, and elegant elongated fuselage" (Fly Now! p. 133). Fly Now! p. 133 (var).
