Lithograph on smooth, cream wove paper, 1927. 395x305 mm; 15 1/8x12 inches, full margins. Artist's proof, aside from the edition of 6 signed by Benson and the printer, Bolton Brown. Inscribed "1st pull off the stone" in pencil, lower left. A superb impression of this extremely scarce print.
After 15 productive years as a printmaker of etchings and drypoints, Benson turned to lithography and sought the aid of Bolton Brown, among the foremost lithograph printers of the day. This is his first of seven different lithographs, the other six subjects deal with birds, and the only still life print within his oeuvre. Ordeman Litho #1.
