THE STAMP OF WHISTLERFRANKLIN T. WOOD
Desdemona's House, Venice<>.

Etching, circa 1905. 225x188 mm; 8 7/8x7 3/8 inches, wide margins. Signed in pencil, lower right. A superb impression of this scarce print.

Wood (1877-1945) was born in Massachusetts and studied at the Cowles Art School, Boston, and, in 1897, at the Art Students' League, New York. In 1903, he traveled to Europe and worked with the etcher John Wright, who accompanied him on his first trip to Venice. By 1904, Wood had returned to Hyde Park, Massachusetts and set up a studio.
