FRANTISEK X. NASKE (1884-1959) PVV / VELETRH V PRAZE. 1927.
37x243/4 inches. Unie, Prague.
Condition B+: vertical and horizontal folds; creases in margins and image. Paper.
Naske was a painter, book illustrator, graphic artist and theater designer. His artistic studies began in Prague but took him all over Europe, from Germany to Holland to Belgium and London. PVV is the Prazske Vzorkove Veletrhy, a yearly trade show held in the Czech capital inside the functionalist architecural mastepiece, the Veletrzni Palace. Here Naske represents progress as a contemporary young woman, replete with flapper characteristics, wearing Mercury's helmet (Mercury was the God of commerce). The telephone at her ear is a further indication of technological progress, and presages the time when that instrument was to beome readily available to most people. This is the Czech version. Trade Fair 128.
